Plaza Hotel — New York, United States
About Plaza Hotel
In Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby , "it's a swell suite" is the closest the group comes to lightness in a schene in which Tom and Gatsby are accelerating toward a confrontation over Daisy. As it were, the room is stuffy and claustrophobic. The windows don't open fully, and the hot summer weights heavily on the group, which uses the hotel to escape summer heat and boredness in the first place. In reality, the Plaza's Fitzgerald Suite is cool as a cucumber. Masculine and grey-toned, with jazz age and deco theming, one might imagine old Jay stopping by to escape the ennui of his lonely manse. The suite was designed by the 2013 Great Gatsby film's production designer (and includes some mementos from the film). It also contains some vintage photos of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald's novels, some sporting trophies (ostensibly from Jay's sporting days), movie memorabilia like love letter…
