About Hotel Monteleone
Hotel Monteleone has expanded over the years, adding hundreds of rooms. The Sicilian cobbler who originally purchased the hotel started with 64 rooms. He immediately purchased a nearby chunk of real estate and expanded, adding 30 more rooms in the hotel's first year. His son added another 200 before the Great Depression.The hotel survived, and renovated in the 1950s, today boasting 523 guestrooms and 96 suites. The original footprint is lost, and today's rooms and suites are some of th emost changed from those that hosted writers. Literary-themed suites (added in the '90s) aren't historical but they are located in a historically significant wing with period charms like ceiling moulding, bed testers, and cozier decor with some extra pattern and flair than non-themed rooms.
