First Hotel Reisen — Stockholm, Sweden
About First Hotel Reisen
Fritiof Nilsson Piraten, the Swedish novelist who wrote Nattvaktens Son and Bröderna Östermans Huskors reportedly locked himself in the room to conquer writer's block (taking six half‑bottles of Château Margaux with him). Later, Joseph Brodsky ensconced himself at the Reisen every summer, writing poems that he hoped would split apart the Soveit regime. He favored a corner room with street views over Skeppsbron and the water.
Literary significance
Today, there are no themed rooms alluding to the literary credentials of the hotel in times past; it's a modern, corporate-owned hotel with some charm: brick walls, adorable alley views, and even dry saunas in some suites.
