Balmoral Hotel — Edinburgh, United Kingdom

About Balmoral Hotel

J.K. Rowling's writing spot for the 7th installment of the Harry Potter series. Today, it's the only purple door (with an owl knocker) in the hotel, There's a locked-up signed Hermes bust inside that Rowling graffitied when she completed the final book, multiple owl accents, stags, time turner-reminiscent pieces, and an old typewriter: in other words, the room is themed without being a museum of Rowling clippings and photographs. The wallpaper evokes the silvery winter forest. Elsewhere, it's spangled with stars. But this is still an eclectic, modern, 5-star hotel suite, with a view over Prince's Street gardens.

Literary significance

Just the Rowling Suite, which is themed and commemorative more than historical
